Dog Safety visit to Whio

Today we had an awesome visit from the Christchurch City Council Dog Safety and Bite Prevention Programme. Our 'animal expert' was called Caroline and she had a special dog with her called Dot. Dot is a 4 year old staffy lab cross and she was very well behaved. It was her first visit to a school after completing her training. Dot did a super job and she was very chilled with the children, even snuggling into the teachers at times.

We learnt lots of great things today-

Most importantly:

“If a dog is on its own, leave it alone!”

How to pat a dog correctly:

Before you pat a dog you must first ask the owner for permission.  You then make a rock (a fist) with your hand and hold it out at arm length. You let the dog sniff your hand before patting the dog on its chest.
2 children from each T group got to come up and pat Dot using the method that we had just be taught.
