A frosty morning at school

This morning the children were so excited to see the frost all over the playground.
We talked about the caution buckets to keep ourselves safe.
We made ice balls and cracked the ice on top of our outdoor kitchen sink.

Here are some photos of our early Monday morning fun!

Fun Day Friday Week 8!

We had a very busy and fun packed Open Door Friday today. We danced, we weaved, we learnt about seeds with Susan (and tasted fresh pumpkin seeds), we made Lego creations and magnet creations, made stuff in the creative room, recused worms from the concrete outside and much, much more!

Special visit from Sarah Cobb, University of Canterbury.

On Wednesday we had a group of children working with Sarah Cobb from the University of Canterbury. Sarah is working with students and teachers at Halswell this year to help us grow our maths brains.  It was a great session and we are all excited to see Sarah again next term!

Tuesday's Reading programme in Whio

Every Tuesday our Reading programme looks a little different to the rest of the week.  Instead of reading in our regular groups with our reading teacher we work in our T groups. We share a poem (this gets added to our poetry book- sometimes this is with our phonics teacher and sometimes it is in T Groups). We visit the library to find new books for the week ahead and we do buddy reading where we share our reading book with a classmate or two. It's nice to have a little variety like this!

Our Bubbles Becoming One Again

This week Whio created a beautiful bubble artwork. Each child made their own bubble using one of three colour palettes: Autumn, Forest/Sea and Love!

We joined our bubbles together to represent our bubbles become one again.
